As part of their Read Aloud Day celebration, which is observed on Saturday, March 9, the Iloilo City Public Library will be holding monthly storytelling sessions beginning this Friday, March 8.
“We want our parents and children to develop their bond through reading,” said City Librarian Marion Aguirre. “We have noticed that bedtime stories are not being practiced among kids and that is why parents will be the ones to read the stories to them.”
She also reiterated a point made during an earlier Read Aloud Day observance regarding exposure to technology.
“We have also noticed that after school, children are using cellphone,” the city librarian pointed out. “Not that we are against technology, but we should still instill [in] our children that, through reading, it will develop their skills in reading, speaking, and improve their communication not only towards their parents, but to people around them.”
