The Sagay City Veterinary Office recently denied rumors claiming the facility was being utilized as a “gas chamber” for impounded stray dogs. In addition, city veterinarian, Dr. Baltazar Delorino, said the office is available for inspection at any time.

He did acknowledge there being a “chamber” in the facility but clarified it was there before the office was established and that it has never been used for its intended purpose.

“It is utilized as a stockroom for office supplies and other materials,” Delorino affirmed.

He also pointed out, RA 8485, or the Animal Welfare Law, prohibits “carbon monoxide poisoning.”

The rumor sprouted from a social media post that claimed impounded dogs were also be starved to death.

Meanwhile, Delorino said dogs are euthanized at the facility.

“Euthanasia, or putting the dogs to sleep by using anesthesia, is applied because it is a more humane and lawful way of eliminating impounded stray dogs,” the veterinarian explained./WDJ
