Negros Oriental experienced two minor earthquakes over the weekend with a 2.2-magnitude quake striking off the coast of Siaton Saturday morning, around 8:35 a.m. The following day, a 1.8-magnitude tremor struck near Basay early that morning, at 12:20 a.m.
According to subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins, no damage was reported as a result of the tremor.
There were also no aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
