The Iloilo City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) will kick off Fire Prevention Month today by sounding an alarm for five minutes beginning at 12:00 noon. There will also be a motorcade event comprised of fire volunteer brigade, fire safety education brigade, and BFP vehicles.
The observance, which is celebrated throughout March, will also have activities including the Fire Olympics, fire drill, poster-making contest, photo contest, among other events.
According to Iloilo City fire marshal, Fire Chief Inspector Christopher Regencia, each of the city’s fire stations will conduct awareness campaigns on fire protection.
He noted, the city is well-equipped with vehicles to respond to emergencies but there are often difficulties, such as narrow streets or parked vehicles that cause obstructions, which hinder their response time.
Regencia said the local BFP’s goal is to have no major fire incidents in the city./WDJ
