Ceres-Negros FC escaped a late comeback by Myanmar’s Shan United in their 2019 AFC Cup opener, beating them 3-2 earlier this week at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Shan United striker Maycon found the back of the net in the 13th minute but it was ruled offside. Shortly after, in the 19th minute, OJ Porteria scored for the home side. In the 37th minute, after being brought down in goal by Shan United keeper Phone Thitsar Min, Ceres midfielder Bienvenido Marañón successfully converted a penalty, doubling the Bacolod City-based club’s lead.

In the second half, Shan United forward Zin Min Tun pulled one back, bringing the match back to a one-goal difference.

It wasn’t until the 87th minute that Porteria earned his brace and widened the Ceres FC lead once again. However, in the very next minute, Shan United striker Dway Ko Ko Chit canceled out the effort and made it 3-2. The Negrense side responded by tightening their defense in order to secure three points.

Ceres-Negros FC next faces Becamex Binh Duong FC on March 12 at the Gò Đậu Stadium in Thu Dau Mot, Vietnam./ASC, WDJ
