Ferrer calls it a matter of ‘saving’ the industry

Former Negros Occidental fourth district Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, who is currently running unopposed for Negros Occidental vice governor, yesterday expressed his opposition to the proposed deregulation on sugar importation.

“I am against it,” he affirmed. “I have been asking support for the industry from the senatorial candidates that I am supporting and, so far, no one has declined my request.”

The candidate said he has already met with some sugar industry leaders and believes, although the national government has the final say, local initiatives and lobbying are crucial.

“We have to save the sugar industry,” he added./DGB, WDJ
