A high school student was injured yesterday morning after being swiped by a truck along Araneta Street in front of Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) in Bacolod City.

Police identified the victim as 14-year-old Angelo Molisan, an NOHS student and resident of the said city.

Police Station 1 traffic investigators said Molisan was crossing the street when he was swiped by a truck driven by Joebert Parenas, a resident of Sipalay City.

Instead of stopping, however, Parenas reportedly sped off but was immediately apprehended by Bacolod Traffic Authority Office traffic enforcers.

Molisan was rushed to a hospital in the city after sustaining injuries to his left shoulder and legs.

When cops questioned Parenas as to why he sped off, the driver said he was not aware of the incident. He further claimed, before the accident, he saw Molisan hesitating to cross the street.

Parenas was later freed after paying the student’s medical bills and the victim’s parents chose not to press charges./DGB, WDJ
