Following a meeting over the weekend facilitated by the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion, Kabankalan City’s Barangay Carol-an is expected to pass a barangay resolution declaring the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) and its political wing, the National Democratic Front (NDF), “persona non grata.”
“This is an ancestral domain and all of our residents want to live peacefully,” said Barangay Carol-an Captain Jocerel Paculanang.
Last month, NPA rebels gunned down barangay tanod Cornelio Morales in the community’s Sitio Camandag. The incident prompted residents to condemn the presence and atrocities of the CPP-NPA.
During the event, Army troopers gave lectures while former rebels gave testimonies.
The United States and European Union earlier declared the CPP-NPA a terror organization./DGB, WDJ
