Negrense student-athletes excel in athletics, swimming

Student-athletes representing Negros Occidental continued to pick up medals yesterday in the ongoing 2019 Visayas qualifying leg, which kicked off over the weekend in Iloilo City.
Negrense athletes triumphed in various athletics events, where Krisha Dedoyco Aguillon won in the girls’ 100-meter dash; she also captured the girls’ 4×100 relay alongside Shalthea Delotavo, Aubrey Mae Mercado, and Athena Besana; Mercado also won the girls’ 400-meter dash; Radsney Marie Diega won the 3000-meter dash, and Joven Jacob won the boys’ walkathon.
Other wins included silver medals won by Brineth Cupan in the girls’ 400-meter dash, Joyce Satia in 3000-meter dash, Marden Villaruel in the boys’ 40-meter dash, and Rhyza Vaflor in the girls’ 2000-meter walk.
Meanwhile, Mercado also earned bronze in the girls’ 100-meter dash.
In swimming, Riana Montelibano won gold in the girls’ 12-and-under 100-meter freestyle, Samantha Secuelan won bronze in the 13-15 200 meter individual medley, and Earl Buncio captured bronze in the 13-15 free style.
Among other results, the Negros Occidental girls’ volleyball team defeated Dumaguete City 25-12, 25-14; whole the province’s boys’ basketball team beat Mandaue, 68-61./ASC, WDJ
