Bayan-Negros: Similar uprising could happen under Duterte

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan-Negros (Bayan-Negros) gathered in front of Rizal Elementary School in Bacolod City yesterday to commemorate the 33rd EDSA People Power revolution anniversary. Bayan-Negros Secretary-General Michael dela Concepcion called the event a “reminder” for the President Rodrigo Duterte administration and warned the same could happen if the public becomes “fed up” with his “dictatorial-like rule.”
He also likened the current situation of Mindanao under Martial Law to the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos.
“Ever since Marcos’ overthrow, the country has yet to experience real change,” dela Concepcion stated, claiming the 1986 event did not bring about a “revolution” as there has been no “revolutionary change” in the country.
He also discussed the current debate of the proposed deregulation on imported sugar, noting, “Instead of helping our farmers, the administration has become heavily reliant on other countries for food and other basic necessities.”/DGB, WDJ
