The Police Regional Office-6 (PRO-6) confirmed they are presently validating if slain Bacolod City businessman Alex Yao is on an illegal drugs watch list. PRO-6 spokesperson, Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong, affirmed they have yet to verify the allegations but, pointed out, information surfaced claiming he was connected to a Cebu-based drug personality.
She noted, they will only reveal the drug personality’s identity if there is enough evidence linking Yao. Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has declined to say if the murder was drug-related.
Earlier, BCPO said they were considering competition, business, or personal grudges among possible motives behind the incident.
Yao, along his wife Maria Theresa, were shot by riding-in-tandem suspects on the grounds of the Redemptorist Church in Bacolod City last Tuesday.
Following the incident, Diocese of Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon urged a swift resolution to the incident and to bring the perpetrators to justice./DGB, WDJ
