The Negros Occidental elementary boys’ basketball team retained their Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association title after beating Iloilo, 59-52, last Thursday at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.

Justin Jalea and Vince Hugo anchored the offense, while Burj Lapuos and Luke Zapata offered some much-needed support for the Negrense side, which will represent the Western Visayas in upcoming 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

It was a seesaw affair for both squads from the start but Jalea and Hugo kept the Negros Occidental side afloat in the final quarter to clinch the victory.

“We are happy to be able to achieve our goal here of defending our championship,” said Negros Occidental head coach Renato Callora Jr.

Meanwhile, in the secondary competition, Capiz defeated Negros Occidental, 77-63./ASC, WDJ
