The University of the Philippines (UP) defeated Far Eastern University (FEU) 25-18, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20 last Wednesday at the San Juan Arena.
Diana Carlos led the way for UP with 15 points, while Justine Dorog and Isa Molde added 12 and 11, respectively.
UP had a flat start before going on an 8-2 run to easily take the set. However, FEU managed to bounce back in the second set to force a 1-1 draw.
The Lady Maroons took the early lead in the third frame but the Lady Tamaraws countered with a run to come to within 21-20. Back-to-back hits by Molde and an ace from Ma. Arielle Estrañero sealed the set for UP.
In the fourth frame, UP built an early advantage due to precise serving and floor defense; their lead grew to 13-6 and they never looked back.
“The game was so hard but we fought until the last minute,” said UP head coach Godfrey Okomu. “FEU is a good team.”
