A former member of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) was shot dead by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels Tuesday morning at Purok Letter in Barangay Camansi, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Jun-jun Sabeco, a resident of Sitio Cara-an, located in the city’s Barangay Tampalon.
The NPA in southern Negros earlier took to social media and claimed responsibility for the murder.
A report by the Philippine Army 303rd Infantry Brigade (303 IB) said the victim was shot to death by four NPA rebels with unknown caliber firearms.
Sabeco sustained multiple gunshot wounds across his body and he was killed on the spot.
Prior to the shooting, initial reports showed Sabeco brought his child to school that morning and was murdered while on his way home.
“The murder of Jun-jun Sabeco is a clear violation of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law,” said 303 IB commander, Colonel Benedict Arevalo.
He said the group’s admission to the killing will be included among documentation sent to the European Union to affirm their classification of the NPA as a terrorist organization.
Three weeks ago, the NPA also murdered a barangay tanod in Barangay Carol-an, also in Kabankalan City./DGB, WDJ
