La Consolacion College-Bacolod (LCC) celebrates 100 years next month, March 12. In the days leading up to the milestone, the school, which is the oldest institution of higher education in Negros Occidental, has a series of events planned to commemorate the event.
According to LCC president, Sr. Gavina F. Barrera, the celebrations seeks to “cherish memories, foster friendships, and to see and celebrate the legacies of the institution in the community.”
Beginning March 1, LCC will be hosting a pilgrimage walk. Starting at 5:00 a.m., the route stretches from the main campus to the Pope John Paul II Tower, located in Bacolod City’s reclamation area.
The school’s Grand Eucharistic Celebration will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the San Sebastian Cathedral on March 12; while the Centennial Legacy Awards will take place on March 9 at 7:00 p.m. Among this year’s recipients includes LCC alumnae, veteran actress Susan Roces, who graduated high school from LCC in 1956.
The school will also present various stage productions as part of the celebration.
On March 4, the integrated school will host an extravaganza beginning at 10:00 a.m., which will feature stage performances and a playground demonstration; a literary musical competition will be held at 2:00 p.m., and the School of Hospitality Management will showcase their “parade of costumes” at 5:00 p.m.
The following day, the Senior High School will host a festival of talents at 1:00 p.m.
On March 8, Alta Costura Cien, an exhibit of productions by LCC fashion design and fine arts students, begins at 6:00 p.m.; while the play “Oh Lofty Tower,” directed by Rene Hofileña, will host two productions daily from March 6 to 11. Following the final production at 7:00 p.m., Rodney Ascalon will host the Grand Centennial Production Show at 10:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, a motorcade is scheduled for March 11 and a “Barrio Fiesta” lunch is set to take place the following day after mass.
Medical missions, along with free psychological and legal consultations, will also take place./WDJ
