Negros Occidental opens competition with two gold medals

Negros Occidental picked up two gold medals yesterday in the 2019 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) meet, which is currently taking place in Roxas City, Capiz.
Jamela Poderoso Deasis won this year’s first gold medal for the province in secondary girls’ shotput after a toss of 11.23 meters, while Julianne Rongo won in the secondary girls’ 30-meter distance archery competition with 309 points.
Both Negrense athletes finished just ahead of their Ilonggo competitors with Cherry Ann Escala finishing second in the shotput event and Yna Patricia Teruel taking second place in the archery competition./ASC, WDJ
