1-Care partylist Rep. Carlos Roman Uybarreta recently appealed to the Department of Energy and the Energy Regulatory Commission to provide full transparency to consumers.
“There should be a breakdown of the cost components of any bunker fuel, diesel, natural gas, solar, geothermal, or wind energy used at the power generation stage,” he explained. “Unbundling the prices of all petroleum products is necessary so the public will not be in the dark and every centavo in fuel prices will be accounted for; they must know where their hard-earned money is going.”
The congressman also cited RA 8479, or the Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998, which mandates the state “ensure a truly competitive market under a regime of fair prices, adequate and continuous supply of environmentally-clean and high-quality petroleum products.”
Local power cooperative Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. already releases an unbundled report with every monthly report./WDJ
