Five ‘impact areas’ identified

With the 2019 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill set to take place in Iloilo City next week, February 21, the Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and Office of the Civil Defense-Region VI identified five “impact areas” across the city. They include John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, SM City Iloilo, the Iloilo Business Park, Iloilo Mission Hospital (IMH), and City Hall.

“Our participation will be on the treatment of patients because, definitely, in such disaster, like [an] earthquake, we can’t get away with injuries, fractures, and more,” IMH administrator Elmer Pedregosa explained. “The immediate response will be to place them in an institution that can treat them.”

“I think it is good that we have trainings like this,” he added. “We will witness and be able to see the training, knowledge and attitude in incidents like earthquake.”

According to CDRRMO head Donna Magno, between 5,000 and 8,000 are expected to participate in the drill./WDJ
