The suspect in the alleged assault and hacking of two individuals, which left one dead earlier this week in Barangay Igmaya-an, Don Salvador Benedicto, was recently captured by local barangay tanods.

The suspect, identified as Gerardo Benarao, Jr., has been on the run after he attacked and hacked his parents, Senona and Gerardo Sr., which ended with the elder Benarao’s death.

Based on information provided by Murcia municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Roberto Indiape, Jr., they received a call from barangay tanods in a neighboring town who said the suspect had been arrested in their neighborhood.

Several cops immediately visited the area and found the suspect covered in cuts and bruises after he allegedly tried to fight off the tanods.

A separate radio report also indicates Benarao was shot in the back when tanods tried to arrest him.

Authorities immediately brought the suspect to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

Benarao may face the criminal charges of parricide and attempted murder./DGB, WDJ
