Is there a campaign to destroy PAO chief Acosta?

“…Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts…” –Isaiah 1:23

It certainly looks like the measles issue is being used in an aggressive campaign to destroy chief public attorney, Dr. Persida Rueda-Acosta, who heads the Department of Justice-Public Attorney’s Office (PAO). While receiving the blame for the rising number of measles cases across the country, a severe propaganda campaign is being conducted with intentions to malign her criticism of the deaths attributed to the Dengvaxia vaccine (many believe those adversely affected by her disclosures on the Dengvaxia scare are retaliating).

This is exhibited in the articles published just last Monday. News articles are trying to claim there is some kind of a measles outbreak with about 4,300 cases reported and 70 people believed to have already died from the disease. They attribute the rise to the number of people refusing vaccinations because of Acosta’s disclosures on the Dengvaxia vaccine. I believe these news articles, and other earlier reports, are clearly vile propaganda designed against Acosta.

The fact is a certain senator being held responsible for a reported P10 billion medical fund mess is now asking for Acosta’s resignation, blaming the PAO chief for the rise in measles cases. Luckily, President Rodrigo Duterte and Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte Carpio continue to trust Acosta, deeming the senator’s call futile. Is there any truth to the reports claiming measles cases have risen this year? If so, were Acosta’s disclosures on the Dengvaxia vaccine solely to blame? In order to get an accurate account, one must consult the World Health Organization (WHO).

Last year, WHO indicated there was nothing to worry about at the time, with 17,298 measles cases reported in 2018; this year, there are reportedly, 4,300 cases. Comparing the two, it is easy to see the number of measles cases this year is far lower than last year.

Despite what some may want to suggest (including the media), there is no measles outbreak.

In a separate Department of Health (DOH) report, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said, looking at DOH research, the reason why parents fear vaccinations is because of Dengvaxia itself, which resulted in the deaths of numerous patients; and not Acosta’s comments.
