A 2.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the waters near Basay yesterday morning, around 2:44 a.m. The epicenter was pinpointed south of the Negros Oriental municipality.
According to a subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletin, no damage was reported as a result of the tremor.
There were also no aftershocks expected.
Quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected./WDJ
