The World Boxing Organization (WBO) issued a letter earlier this week mandating a rematch between Negrense fighters, WBO world super flyweight champion Donnie Nietes of Murcia and Aston Palicte of Bago City. According to the organization, the two have 15 days to agree to a fight.

The two fought last September at The Forum in Inglewood, California, in the United States, which ended in a split draw.

“At this point, Donnie wants bigger fights,” said Michael Aldeguer of ALA Boxing Promotions, which handles Nietes’ bouts. “He wants to fight the big names.”

“We don’t want two Filipinos fighting for a world title,” he added.

Meanwhile, Roy Jones, Jr. (RJJ) Boxing Promotions, which manages Palicte, is looking forward to a rematch.

“I will start the process on making a deal with Nietes’ people,” said RJJ Boxing CEO/Co-Founder Keith Veltre. “We’re looking forward to seeing Aston become world champion.”/ASC, WDJ
