Roger Pogoy came up with clutch conversions in the overtime as TNT KaTropa prevailed over the Magnolia Hotshots, 80-75, in the 2019 Honda PBA Philippine Cup last Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
With the score tied at 74-74, KaTropa surged to a 77-74 advantage following a top-of-the-key triple from Pogoy; with under a minute left in the game, he then scored another layup to seal the victory.
Pogoy finished the game with 26 points, including five three-point conversions; while Jayson Castro contributed 24 for KaTropa.
Trailing 57-61 midway in the fourth period, KaTropa banked on back-to-back triples by Celedonio Trollano and Castro for a 65-61 lead. The Hotshots answered back with a triple from Robbie Herndon and a “twinner” by Jio Jalalon for a 69-68 lead.
A seesaw battle ensued.
The Hotshots surged to a 72-70 lead on a basket by Rafael Reavis and free throw by Jalalon, but KaTropa was able to force the game into overtime on an inside hit by Jeth Troy Rosario./ASC, WDJ
