Maria Arielle Estrañero of Bacolod City was recently named captain of the University of the Philippines (UP) women’s volleyball team. The team is scheduled to open their 81st UAAP women’s volleyball season against University of the East on Saturday, February 16.

The former University of St. La Salle standout, who is expected to play as main setter, will be playing in her fifth and final year of eligibility.

“It would have been more difficult for me had I not played my final year,” she said.

UP coach Godfrey Okomu expressed his confidence in the Bacolodnon.

“With [Estrañero] available as our setter, we will go places,” he stated. “She brings a lot of experience [and] the team really needs her this moment.”
