Mark Nonoy of La Carlota City led scoring for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in their 86-83 upset over Far Eastern University (FEU) in UAAP Season 81 juniors basketball last Sunday at the San Juan Arena.
The Negrense finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and two blocks; while John Bismark Lina added a double-double with 22 points and 18 boards.
UST waxed early on with three-point baskets from Nonoy for a 24-16 advantage. FEU came close in the second but a late surge from the Negrense propelled the eventual winners to a 49-42 halftime edge.
UST went on to lead by as much as 12 points in the second half, following a triple by Nonoy and inside shots from Lina and Jomar Amador; however, FEU clawed its way back to take a 69-68 lead.
In the fourth quarter, UST surged to an 80-73 advantage but FEU went on another run, forcing an 83-83 deadlock.
A jumper from Amador and a free throw by Vince Marzan proved to be the marginal points for the UST./ASC, WDJ
