The Senate recently approved Senate Bill No. 1919 on its third and final reading, which converts Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) into a state university.

The school, which will be renamed Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, has its main campus in Talisay City, an additional satellite campus in the same city, along with satellite campuses in Bacolod City and Binalbagan.

The senate bill, authored by Senator Paolo ‘Bam’ Aquino IV, is the counterpart bill to House Bill No. 7081, which was penned by Bacolod City lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya.

“This is a big development not just only for the CHMSC but also for the alumni, the teachers, and other stakeholders,” the congressman said.

The bill is currently awaiting approval from President Rodrigo Duterte./DGB, WDJ
