The Bloomberg Foundation, whose advocacy includes tobacco control, will be in Iloilo next week, from February 15 to 16, to observe anti-smoking practices in the city.
“Gusto nila makita ang actual naton nga ginahimo sa field (They want to see what is actually being done out in the field),” explained Iloilo City Anti-Smoking Task Force director Iñigo Garingalao.
Along with observing the city’s anti-smoking campaign, they will attend a forum with Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III; Department of Health-Region 6 director, Dr. Marlyn Convocar; and Iloilo City Health Office personnel.
The group will also meet with children involved in the Kids Smoke-free Storytelling Program, which educates children on the harmful effects of tobacco use.
According to the Bloomberg Philanthropies website, since 2007, the organization has committed nearly $1 billion to combating tobacco use worldwide./WDJ
