The Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod recently approved a resolution requesting Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia to spearhead a massive clean-up drive along all coastal areas of the city.

The resolution, authored by City Councilor Caesar Distrito, said it is a local government unit’s “duty” to “promote the general welfare, enhance the right of the people to a balanced ecology, preserve the comfort and convenience of their inhabitants, and ensure the protection of the public health and environment being the part of the state.”

The policy cites piles of waste accumulating at various coastal communities, noting, the situation is “worsening.”

“The city has to become part of this endeavor and must emulate these worthy activities since our coastal areas are now in dire need of our care and attention,” the city councilor said./DGB, WDJ
