In response to a letter from the Diocese of Bacolod Social Action Center (SAC) last week, Bacolod City Councilor Dindo Ramos said the  Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) will conduct a hearing this week over the proposed joint venture, or private public partnership, the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) plans to enter with the PrimeWater Infrastructure Corporation.
Ramos, who chairs the SP Committee on Energy, said the hearing may be conducted between January 31 and February 1.
The councilor said he wants to hear from both sides before taking a position.
He added, the Baciwa Board of Directors, businessmen, barangay captains, and the SAC are expected to attend the public hearing.
Earlier, SAC head, Rev. Fr. Chris Gonzales, requested the hearing, stating, consumers have the right to full disclosure on any move or plan that Baciwa undertakes, including projects regarding bulk water aimed at delivering water efficiently.
Gonzales stated in his letter, it is clear Baciwa is executing such a project to better improve services. However, he pointed out, the latest joint venture is causing confusion and alarm, which is why they are asking for a public hearing in order for consumers who will be affected by the move to be aware of the situation./DGB, WDJ
