Following reports unidentified remains washed ashore on Danjugan Island, part of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, last Tuesday, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Bacolod station chief, Commander Ludovico Librilla, confirmed no such remains were recovered from the said location.
He pointed out, PCG staff from the substation in Cauayan visited the island following the report, noting, “When they arrived, it was negative; they didn’t find any dead body.”
PCG earlier recovered the remains of 15-year-old Romel Palmaira, who went missing last January 16, along with his brother, 17-year-old Roben Palmaira.
Librilla said the elder brother remains missing, while the younger sibling has since been buried in their hometown of Pulupandan.
The PCG official believes the missing body may have drifted further out due to strong currents.
He noted, an order was issued to PCG stations requesting they immediately report the matter if they spot any remains in their respective areas and to retrieve them./DGB, WDJ
