Over 200 street sweepers to be deployed

The Iloilo City General Service Office (GSO) revealed 214 street sweepers will be deployed across the city for the upcoming Iloilo Dinagyang Festival highlights, scheduled to take place from January 25 to 27, particularly during the Kasadyahan Festival on January 26 and the Ati tribes competition the following day, January 27.

“We have already assigned where they will maintain cleanliness,” explained assistant GSO department head, Engr. Neil Ravena. “We also assigned 10 inspectors, or supervisors, to monitor them.”

He added, street sweepers will be in “full force” the Monday after the festival closes.

On top of the 300 tons of garbage collected on a daily basis during the festival, GSO is anticipating an additional 40 to 50 tons during the highlights.

“Most of the garbage that we collected after Dinagyang are organic, or biodegradable,” Ravena pointed out. “Food stalls are selling oysters and they use coconut leaves as their roof.”/WDJ
