Senator Manny Pacquiao, who recently defended his World Boxing Association welterweight title against American boxer Adrien Broner, assured fans the eye injury he incurred during the bout is “nothing serious.”
“It’s okay, it’s just my eyes are watering; it’s a scratch to my eyeball,” he said in an interview with GMA News. “I’ve been through this with the right [eye], now it’s on the left.”
“It’s really a scratch,” the boxing champion insisted. “It’s easy to heal a scratch on the eyeball.”
Pacquiao’s head trainer Buboy Fernandez echoed the sentiment, saying, the boxer just needs time to heal.
“Minor lang naman ‘yung eye injury niya kaya walang cause of concern (It’s just a minor eye injury and ther eis no cause for concern),” the trainer explained. “Ang sabi nung mga doctor na tumingin sa kanya, three days of rest para mag heal ‘yung injury. (After looking at Pacquiao, the doctor said he needs three days of rest for the injury to heal.””
Earlier reports speculated Pacquiao suffered from a detached retina, which would essentially end his boxing career.
