New collection strategy was unveiled less than a week ago

Less than a week after the Bacolod City government unveiled their new strategy for garbage collection at markets, acting Bacolod City Mayor El Cid Familiaran claimed there are no more complaints regarding garbage collection at the city’s markets.
The new policy bars market vendors from disposing waste at so-called “mini-dumpsters” and requires them to only bring out their garbage when an IPM-Construction and Development Corporation truck passes. As of last week, the “mini-dumpsters” have been removed.
Familiaran said he hopes market vendors continue with the new strategy.
Meanwhile, the acting mayor is scheduled to meet with Barangay Vista Alegre Captain Lindy De Leon to discuss proper waste disposal after several individuals pointed out how local residents are allegedly “throwing their waste everywhere,” particularly at the Arao Relocation Site.
Familiaran earlier said he plans ask Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who is currently out of the country, to order the City Legal Enforcement Unit to further strengthen their campaign against illegal dumping.
He added, the problem is due to a lack of cooperation from “violators” who refuse to throw out their garbage based on the collection schedule set by city waste management contractor./DGB, WDJ
