Filipino boxers Jayar Inson and Rey Perez both suffered defeats in their undercard bouts that preceded Senator Manny Pacquiao’s World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight belt victory over Adrien Broner yesterday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.

Inson lost in his United States debut via split decision to American boxer Jonathan Steele.

Steele was aggressive early on as he knocked Inson down late in the opening round. The Filipino tried to battle back but the American continued to push forward, resulting in a 74-77, 77-74, 78-73 score.

Meanwhile, Perez lost via unanimous decision to Australian George Kambosos, Jr., Pacquiao’s former sparring partner. The Aussie started and finished strong, ending with an 80-72, 80-72, 80-72 result.

The two were the only Filipino fighters to enter the ring as the fights featuring fellow Filipino boxers Jhack Tepora and Genisis Libranza were canceled.

Tepora was stripped of his WBA interim featherweight title after exceeding the weight limit; while Libranza’s fight was postponed after his opponent, Carlos Buitrago, also went over the weight limit for their bout./ASC, WDJ
