The Department of Education (DepEd) published a post on social media yesterday reminding the public that early registration for the 2019/2020 academic year for kindergarten students, along with Grades 1, 7, and 11, begins next week, January 26.

They cited DepEd Order No. 3, or the Basic Education Enrollment Policy, which seeks to make the enrollment police more efficient.

The policy notes, the period between the last Saturday of January and the last Friday of February is reserved for early registration pertaining to the aforementioned grade levels. According to the order, “Incoming Grades 2-6, Grades 8-10, and Grade 12 are considered pre-registered.”

Aside from ensuring new students are enrolled, the period also offers time to locate and identify out-of-school children and out-of-school youth.

The order lists some of their characteristics including those living with a disability; residing in an “off-grid community,” a barangay without a school, amid armed conflict, or a geographically-isolated area; undocumented; afflicted with chronic illness or nutritional problems; among others issues./WDJ
