House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is scheduled to arrive at Bacolod-Silay Airport this morning, where she will then travel to the Bredco Port and board a roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel to the Dumangas Port in Iloilo in order to revisit the Nautical Highway System, a project implemented during her tenure as president.
The stretch between Negros and Panay is only a portion of the Philippine Nautical Highway System, which comprises a number of locales across the country from Tagaytay City to Dapitan City.
The system was introduced as a means of connecting the major islands of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
Opened in 2003, the entire highway runs for 919 kilometers.
Several bus companies currently operate routes along the nautical highway./DGB, WDJ
