The Philippine Army 62nd Infantry Battalion (62IB) called the attack on their detachment in Barangay Hilamonan, Kabankalan City last week by the New People’s Army (NPA) an act of “desperation.”

In a statement posted on social media, they said the detachment was successfully defended during the 15-minute gun battle and forced NPA rebels to retreat.

The army battalion called the attacking rebels a “bunch of mad dogs” and “desperate in getting their revenge” after their Himamaylan City hideout was earlier captured.

According to 62IB, the rebels’ world is slowly shrinking and communities are no longer supportive of their cause.

They added, military units are still conducting pursuit operations against the NPA and are currently trying to determine if the rebels suffered casualties during the attack./DGB, WDJ
