The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) recently revealed the city saw a 14.53 percent decline in the crime rate in 2018 as compared to the previous year. A total of 8,556 criminal acts were reported last year, down from the 10,010 cases reported in 2017.
“Our officers are continuously doing their best to maintain the decrease of crime volume in the city through its maximum police visibility where they are at their respective posts 24/7,” explained ICPO operations chief, Police Superintendent Jowel Saliba. “The continuous decrease in crime volume has a great impact to the city itself; it is not just because of the decrease in number but also in the security felt by the people.”
ICPO reported drops in crimes against persons, crimes against property, and traffic incidents.
“Crime prevention is not only the job of the PNP (Philippine National Police) or other law enforcement agencies, it also involves the community,” he added. “We are appealing to the community, if they have any information to solve such cases or prevent a crime, don’t ever hesitate to call or visit the nearest police station.”/WDJ
