An 18 year old was wounded yesterday morning after a pair of teenagers allegedly threw an explosive device called a ‘pillbox’ at him and his friends along General Luna Street in Barangay Poblacion, Bago City.
Police identified the victim as Rommel Rosareal, a resident of the said area.
Based on a report released by the Bago City Police Station, Rosareal and his group were confronted by the suspects, identified as Jomarie Tapangan and Edwin Corbita, both residents of the said area. One of the assailants allegedly threw the improvised explosive device at the group, with the explosion wounding the victim in the right leg.
Nearby barangay tanods rushed to the area upon hearing the explosion, which resulted in Corbita’s arrest.
Tapangan, meanwhile, managed to elude police.
Bago City police are presently conducting a follow-up operation against Tapangan, while Corbita is detained at the Bago City Police Station.
Both face charges in violation of RA 9516, an amendment to Presidential Decree No. 1866, which systemized firearm and explosives laws and imposed stiffer penalties for violators./DGB, WDJ
