Just before the end of 2018, the Department of Energy (DOE) published a list of “energy resolutions” for 2019 as a means of encouraging the public to use energy more efficiently, which both preserves resources and saves money for consumers.
Several items pertained to lights, including shutting off unused lighting fixtures and to take advantage of the sun during the day.
They also suggested switching to an LED lighting system.
According to DOE, “You can save, at most, 86 percent [of] energy by switching from incandescent bulbs to LED; or 50 percent savings from compact fluorescent lamps to LED.”
They also suggested purchasing more energy efficient products, along with keeping appliances clean.
“One can save around P96 for regularly cleaning the filters and condensers of a one-horsepower conventional air-conditioner being operated for eight hours per day,” DOE said in their bulletin.
In terms of motor vehicles, the agency suggested maintaining correct tire pressure and to have air filters regularly checked and replaced./WDJ
