The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Negros Occidental is on ‘full alert’ status in preparation for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day celebrations on Monday.

BFP-Negros Occidental fire marshal, Fire Superintendent Pamela Rojane Candido, said all 30 of their fire stations across the province are ready for “Oplan: Iwas Paputok,” which seeks to reduce the number of firecracker-related injuries and deaths.

The BFP official said they have strengthened monitoring and inspections of all places authorized for firecracker and other pyrotechnic device sales.

Candido also reminded the public to make sure they are buying firecrackers from sellers who have complete permits not only from the local government, but from police and BFP.

She added, currently, they have not recorded any fire incidents related to firecracker use and they are hoping their campaign will result in zero casualties./DGB, WDJ
