Several units of heavy machinery and equipment belonging to a mining corporation were either damaged or destroyed late Tuesday night after suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members attacked a quarry site in Ayungon, Negros Oriental.

Based on a statement provided by security guard Anthony Basaylahe to Ayungon municipal police, around 50 heavily-armed men, believed to be NPA rebels, entered the quarry site.

Basaylahe and another guard were immediately disarmed by the rebels.

The suspected rebels then set the heavy equipment on the site ablaze, all of which were said to be owned by the Pilipinas Eco Friendly Mining Corporation.

The assailants then withdrew south and were last seen heading towards Bindoy.

Ayungon police are presently conducting an investigation of the incident./DGB, WDJ
