Sipalay City struck by tremor on Christmas Day
Between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Tayasan, a municipality in Negros Oriental, endured four earthquakes, with the largest measuring 4.9 in magnitude and striking west of the town around 10:43 p.m. on Christmas Eve
According to a Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) bulletin, an Intensity IV was recorded in Ayungon and Manjuyod, wherein the tremor was felt by many and may disturb items such as dishes and windows. It can also be described as having a sensation similar to a truck striking a building.
La Libertad and Tayasan were said to have experienced an Intensity III, where the tremor is more likely felt by those on the upper floor of buildings with sensations similar to the vibrations of a passing truck; and an Intensity II, where very few feel the tremor, was recorded in Guihulngan City.
In addition, an Intensity I, where it almost goes undetected, was felt in Cebu City, Bago City, and La Carlota City.
Phivolcs also noted, there were no reported damages as a result of the incident, nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
There were three subsequent earthquakes to strike the town. A 2.6-magnitude quake struck at 11:04 p.m., a 2.0-magnitude tremor occurred at 11:56 p.m., and a 2.2-magnitude earthquake shook the municipality at 1:44 a.m. on Christmas Day.
Meanwhile, Sipalay City also experienced a Christmas Day tremor when seismic activity measuring 2.2 in magnitude struck around 7:25 p.m./WDJ
