“…Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the Lord; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him… From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no soundness – only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged or soothed with olive oil…” –Isaiah 1:4 and 6
The entire nation is to blame for the recent bullying incident at Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU). A minor publicly manhandling a fellow pupil cannot really be blamed on the bully or his family, the victim or his family, or AdMU itself. This is a product of the society we live in. As a whole, our society lost its moorings long ago, discarding good manners and right conduct; belief in God; love of country; and respect for others, especially the poor and marginalized.
We all know what Philippine society of comprised of; all of us – rich, poor, young, old, male, female, etc. The fact is today’s Filipinos have proven the prophecies foretelling a world becoming selfish, immoral, rude, godless, criminal-minded, and sinful. With such despicableness pervading the Philippines, the youth, whether rich or poor, behave in a devilish manner – even at a young age, they already give the appearance of the “personification of evil.”
This column has discussed such disturbing events before and I have insisted young kids, even those just weaned off their mother’s breast, are capable of hurling invectives and other foul words, and behaving rudely with no fear of their parents and siblings (and, for the rich kids, nannies) – and nobody is paying attention.
There is some consolation in knowing such behavior is also exhibited by young people around the world, but it is not justification to accept such actions in a place where national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, once referred to young people as the “hope of the fatherland.”
The Filipino race is doomed
Today’s children are rude, disrespectful, selfish, and have no fear and love or God; they will soon become the leaders and elders of society. These children, who are sinful and criminally-inclined, will become the leaders of this country in a few years.
What will they have become when that time comes? What is expected of them?
They would likely carry on the leadership style of today’s elected officials – rude; no fear and love of God; and lacking concern for the entire nation, only their personal interests. This will lead the country to its ultimate destruction.
How can we change the future? As impossible as it may seem, given our nation’s descent toward evil continues unabated, we need to return to God. Accept, receive, believe, and have faith in Him.
