The Iloilo City Sangguniang Panlungsod recently passed a resolution declaring food capitals within the city. The La Paz district was named the “La Paz Batchoy capital of the Philippines,” while the Molo district was given the same distinction for pancit molo.
Iloilo City Councilor Jose Efrain Treñas promoted the pancit molo segment of the resolution, while City Councilor Candice Magdalane Tupas endorsed the La Paz batchoy portion.
“La Paz batchoy is my comfort food,” Tupas stated. “This will encourage more tourists to visit and try the La Paz batchoy.”
“Everytime my friends visit me here, I always bring them to La Paz Market and let them taste the La Paz batchoy,” she added.
The resolution intends to help tourists identify the origins of La Paz batchoy and pancit molo./WDJ
