Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, who is running for governor in next year’s midterm elections, expressed alarm over the recent violent attacks in Bacolod City.

In a radio report yesterday morning, the vice governor called on law enforcement to find a way to quell the situation and ensure security.

Earlier this month, Barangay 16 Captain Nelson Ligaya, Jr. was shot dead at a beer house by four riding-in-tandem suspects.

More recently, Bacolod City Councilor Ricardo Tan’s vehicle was ambushed. While the city official and his wife sustained minor wounds, all of which were attributed to broken glass caused by bullets striking the vehicle’s windshield, a total 24 empty shells from a 5.56 caliber firearms and seven empty .45 caliber shells were recovered from the crime scene.

Despite the attacks, however, Lacson said he does not plan on obtaining “closed-in bodyguards.”
