The Regional Wage Board (RWB) is presently backing salary increases for household helpers in the Western Visayas.

General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) Secretary-General Wennie Sancho said Wage Order No. 2 expired last December 8 and insisted there is a need to review and hike salaries for household helpers from P800 to P1,000.

He hopes the proposal will be approved next year.

Currently, the average salary of a household worker is P3,500 a month.

There are currently an estimated 116,000 individuals working as household helpers./DGB, WDJ
