Marcos: They should have the same benefits as government officials
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
2019 senatorial candidate, Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, recently returned to Negros Occidental, where she served as guest of honor for officials from the Negros Occidental fourth congressional district, which included 1,500 barangay officials.
During the event, the senatorial aspirant said terms for barangay officials should be five years.
She added, a barangay official’s job is a “24/7 commitment to serve” and they should cooperate with one another in order to sustain a satisfactory level of public service.
The governor also discouraged them from getting involved with illegal activity.
Marcos also believes barangay officials deserve more compensations and benefits, noting, they are entitled to the same incentives enjoyed by government executives and officials.
She vowed, if elected, to lobby for her said proposals.
The senatorial candidate was in Bacolod City earlier this month, where she admitted her brother, former Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., “got a beating” in the province when he ran for vice president in 2016.
Marcos said she hopes, despite the area being a “bailiwick of our political opponents,” people will be kind.
The Ilocos Norte governor, who is one of several candidates endorsed by Hugpong Pagbabago, Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte’s political coalition, also acknowledged earning a seat in the Senate would be difficult as there are several incumbents running, along with other popular figures./DGB, WDJ
