A fire broke out last Saturday morning at Purok Unlad in Barangay 13, Bacolod City, affected at least seven families and several tenants.

Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection chief, Fire Chief Inspector Publio Ploteña, said the fire reportedly started around 11:35 a.m.

Residents scattered in different directions, with some said to have jumped into a nearby creek to get away. The blaze was said to have spread quickly due to the homes being made of light materials. Conditions were further worsened due to strong winds experienced in the area at the time.

Firefighters quelled the blaze within minutes of arrival.

BFP estimates damages between P150,000 and P200,000.

Ploteña added, they are still looking into the cause of the blaze.

Some residents, meanwhile, have temporarily been sheltered at the nearby Barangay 13 Hall./DGB, WDJ
