The Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPW) recently signed a P12.25 billion agreement to rehabilitate, expand, and improve the utility firm’s distribution system and wastewater management facilities.

“Through various efficiency measures and investment in new pipes, we hope to bring the [current] 20 percent coverage closer to 100 percent by the end of the concession,” said MPW director Ramoncito Fernandez.

MIWD projects, over the next 25 years, safe and potable water will be delivered to 1.4 million residents.

The firm’s service area includes Iloilo City, Pavia, Oton, Maasin, Cabatuan, Santa  Barbara, Leganes, and San Miguel.

Meanwhile, Senator Franklin Drilon was present for the signing, which he called a “light at the end of the tunnel.”

“We could not sell Iloilo city and province as livable areas and tourist and investment destinations if we have a water problem,” the senator explained./WDJ
